(Artemisia absynthium) Hardy perennial in the Aster Family, native to Eurasia. Grows in bushes to 24” tall, with flowering spikes up to 48” tall. Grey-green serrated foliage is highly ornamental. Flowers are yellow but inconspicuous. A classic vermifuge (expels intestinal worms) that can be used by people or pets. Notorious as the key ingredient in Absinthe. Thujones in plant responsible for mildly psychoactive effects when smoked. No irrigation needed once plants established.
Planting suggestions: Can take poor soil. Direct sow in garden or flats around the time of the Final Frost. Seedlings are tiny. Give first-year plants at least 6” spacing. Transplant to 18-24” spacing second year and thereafter.
