(Rheum rhabarbarum) Perennial in the Buckwheat Family, native to Eurasia. Old-fashioned stand-by, favored for pies and sauces. Delightfully tart stalks also enjoyed raw by some. Leaves are avoided because of high oxalic acid content. This seed collected from the “Victoria” variety, but expect some variation. Drought-tolerant once established.
Planting suggestions: Rich soil, worked deeply. Full sun. Direct-sow around the Final Frost, or start in pots. Final spacing 35-48″. Plant annual flowers and veggies in between them the first couple years as they are sizing up. First harvest not until third Spring or later.
