Showy Milkweed is native to the Pacific Northwest and the only type of Milkweed native West of the Cascade Mountains. They have beautiful soft leaves, showy pink flowers, and are appreciated by both bees and butterflies.
If your goal is to provide Monarch Butterfly habitat it is best to plant as large of swaths as possible. If you are outside the Pacific Northwest and wanting to support Monarchs, please find which types of Milkweed are native to your region. Spreads by rhizomes over time. Showy Milkweed is also edible, but do thorough research before consuming any plants.
