Giti-Okosomin Winter Squash (Maxima)
Limited to one pack of 10 seeds. The famed ancient squash is our absolute favorite winter squash. Large, 15-30 pound fruit, up to 3' long or more, but average over 2'. Has an excellent rich, smooth flavor, somewhere between a pumpkin and a sweet potato. Use it in the same way you would use either. It cans very well for later use. We were given nine, second generation, seeds from Ken Lobe at Canadian Mennonite University and we have enjoyed this beautiful squash immensely ever since. The story goes, it was discovered in a clay ball inside an 800 year old clay pot in Wisconsin. That story has been partially de-bunked by Miami tribal peoples who say they have been growing it for over 5,000 years. Regardless, this beauty, which we believe to be jam-packed with nutrition, is an ancient Native American staple that we can all now enjoy. We plant it in spring and harvest in July but would be interested to know how a mid-summer plant and late fall harvest goes. Not drought tolerant. Still, a very rare seed, so quantities are limited to one pack of 10 seeds.
