(Lactuca sativa) Annual in the Aster Family, native to Eurasia. Lettuce may have been first cultivated by the ancient Egyptians. Cousin to green iceberg, but with a rich red-brown hue that adds color to gardens and salad mixes. Red Iceberg heads do not bolt too quickly and have a lovely mild flavor.
Planting suggestions: Average garden soil is sufficient. Full sun to partial shade. Direct-sow around the Final Frost. Direct sow seeds ⅛-¼” deep. Plant in rows 16-18” apart with seeds 1” apart; thin to 10-16” apart. As with other lettuces you can sow new batches of lettuce each month all the way into October, depending on your regional climate. You can extend your growing season with cold frames if desired.
Contains at least 50 seeds.
