Orca Bean
(Phaseolus Vulgaris) Also called Yin Yang or Calypso beans, these bush beans have stunning black and white coloring that gives them their name. They are often used as soup and or as baking beans, and become plump and delicious when cooked. While orca beans are believed to have originated in Central/South America, Secwepemc elder Wolverine William Ignace was one of the stewards of this seed that directly helped to ensure we could be growing it today. He modeled both a care for the land and for people, caring for seeds and giving the majority of what he grew to elders, families, and others who were trying to live on and protect their traditional lands.
Planting suggestions: These beans are not hardy and will not tolerate frost well. They prefer full sun and loose soil. Wait to sow seeds until well after the danger of frost is past, in around May or June, depending on your region. Sow seeds ~ 1” deep, in rows 12-18” apart, with plants around 5-10” apart.
Contains 50 seeds.
