Rainbow Cayenne Pepper
(Capsicum annuum) Annual in the Nightshade Family, native to South America. Bushy plants 24-36” tall bear dozens of fruits. Well-known for spiciness: 30,000-50,000 units on the Scoville hotness scale. The hotter the pepper, the better it does in cooler climates. Popular in many cuisines. Added to hot chocolate drinks by indigenous people in the Americas. Medicinally, used to treat poor circulation, as a heart tonic and as ingredient in “Cyclone Cider”. Antiseptic and carminative properties. Rich, well-drained soil required. Full sun. Start indoors at least six weeks before the final frost date. Transplant out when night-time temps are 50+F and plant has at least 2 sets of true leaves. Give 24” spacing. Grow in a hoop house in milder climates. Excellent candidate for container gardening. Ready to pick when bright red. Contains 50 seeds.
