Matures in 70-90 days from seed. Ancient annual in the Nightshade Family, native to Mexico and Guatemala. Upright, many-branched bushes, 2-3′ tall, 2-3′ across, laden with husk-wrapped fruits hanging like lanterns. A favorite in Mexican cuisine, especially in salsa. Average garden soil sufficient, but fertilizing will bulk it up. Full sun. Start indoors a few weeks before the Final Frost. Or try direct-sowing when the soil has warmed up – these seeds were harvested from a patch of volunteer plants. Space 24-36” apart. Harvest when fruit is bursting out of husk & comes free easily. Store in a cool, dry place with husks in tact. Contains 50 seeds.
