(Clarkia amoena) Also called Herald of Summer, these vibrant pink flowers are showy enough to be planted purely for aesthetics, but also have deep relationships with the people and creatures who live with them. Their seeds are useful for food and the Miwok peoples use them after parching and grinding them. The flowers are also used by many native bees, including Short Leafcutter Bees, who use them in their nests.
