(Ocimum basilicum var. thyrsiflora) Annual in the Mint Family. Delightful ingredient in the kitchen, especially for Thai cooking. Purple-tinged foliage and stems. Grows to 2 feet high when blooming. Flowers are purple and a bee-attractor.
Cultivation & harvesting suggestions: A Summer crop. Sow in flats inside or in a hoophouse or greenhouse around the time of the last frost. Transplant out when plants have at least two sets of true leaves and weather has warmed. Give 18-24″ spacings. Or grow in pots. Rich soil and regular watering.
