(Hordeum vulgare) The classic grain crop prized for its hearty deliciousness in soups. This is a “six-row” variety, higher in nutritional content than the “two-row” varieties. Easy to grow.
Planting suggestions: Sow seeds in Autumn to overwinter, or in early Spring. Too-late planting will result in shorter plants and a smaller yield. Thin plants to 6” apart in rows 12” apart, or broadcast evenly. Harvest when plants have dried completely and turned brown, and before the birds steal them. Thresh and winnow.
